This August, the Can Clos Cultural Center in La Cellera de Ter is hosting a unique musical residency organized by Idea Associació Cultura and the Isvor Association from Bucharest. The project, named “Univers Sonor,” aims to foster cultural exchange and strengthen the ties between the musical traditions of Catalonia and Romania. This year, Univers Sonor welcomes the members of Imago Mundi from Bucharest, a band focused on reinterpreting traditional Romanian music from the perspective of contemporary musicians.
From August 16 to 20, various activities are scheduled, including performances of traditional Romanian music. Highlights include mini-recitals featuring traditional Romanian instruments such as the cobză, flutes, and percussion instruments, as well as video screenings of Imago Mundi’s work based on Romanian folk music.
In addition, with the support of the Malaia City Council, interactive workshops for children in Malaia will be held in September, using instruments typical of both cultures.
“Univers Sonor” not only connects two cultures through music but also offers a unique platform for the research and presentation of musical instruments and traditions from Catalonia and Romania. The project is designed to encourage cultural exchange and enrich the musical heritage of the communities involved.
